Dr. Kevin May Is Visiting Ophthalmologist

Recognizing a gap in access to healthcare locally, St. Vincent Health will add Ophthalmologist Kevin May, MD to its growing offering of visiting specialists, beginning this month.
Dr. Kevin May has been providing the most advanced ophthalmology care to his patients in Colorado since 2004, when he and his wife could no longer ignore the lure of the Rocky Mountains and moved from the eastern United States.
“Market research tells us that upwards of 1,900 people in Lake County seek ophthalmology services and the number is expected to grow 17% in 5 years. This is exactly the type of strategic growth that SVH is focused on--bringing health services that are needed to the people of Lake County,” said Andy Dreesen, CEO of St. Vincent Health.
The ophthalmology specialty clinic services will include:
- General (routine) eye exams
- Vision prescriptions (glasses and contacts)
- Medically related diagnostic exams
- Diabetic health
- Glaucoma
- Cataracts
- Retina health
- Macular Degeneration
Dr. May will be at SVH once per month to start and will increase his clinic days as the need demands. He commented,
“We love Leadville, Twin Lakes and Lake County and are homeowners here. I can’t think of anything I would rather do professionally than to care for people in this community.”
Seeing an ophthalmologist is crucial for maintaining eye health and preventing vision problems. Ophthalmologists are medical doctors specialized in diagnosing, treating and managing various eye conditions, from common issues like nearsightedness and dry eyes to more serious diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration.
