Timothy Brininger, MD
Dr. Timothy Brininger was born in Northeastern Ohio, and graduated from Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1990. He spent four years on active duty with the United States Air Force as a flight surgeon, two in Guam and two in Utah.
After being deployed around the globe he returned to finish his family practice residency in Reading, Pennsylvania. Upon completion of his residency Dr. Brininger moved to Idaho with his family where he spent 21 years doing rural family practice to include full spectrum outpatient and inpatient medicine. He remained in the Air Force Guard or Reserves until last year when he was retired as a full bird colonel. He was chief of staff of the hospital and medical director of the clinic for many of those years. He had also been the medical adviser for eight EMS agencies at one time as well as the medical director for the local hospice agency.
Dr. Brininger was initially drawn to family medicine because he enjoys the diversity as well as the continuity of family care. He feels particularly rewarded by providing multi-generational care and delivering the babies of adult patients who he once cared for as children. He considers it a privilege to have been the only primary care doctor for an entire family, from birth to end-of-life.
“I believe that close relationships with members of extended families results in a level of trust that simply cannot be obtained in an urban, group practice type setting,” commented Dr. Brininger. “Small town medicine often means better medicine.”
Dr. Brininger and his wife Nancie elected to move to Colorado Springs to be closer to their two grown children. He currently works in New Mexico doing full spectrum family medicine and obstetrics, but his position allows him considerable time off every month to pursue other endeavors.
When not practicing medicine or serving the country, Dr. Brininger and his family enjoy traveling, snow skiing, water skiing and hiking—they even recently remodeled a house. He is looking forward to being able to practice part-time in Leadville and getting to know the community.
