St. Vincent Health opened 3D Mammography in 2025. The Mammography equipment was fully funded by a grant from the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing - Rural Stimulus Funds. We are excited to bring state-of-the-art screening mammography to Leadville.  The new equipment at SVH delivers industry-leading image acquisition that rivals images from any breast center in our neighboring communities.

Screening Mammogram vs Diagnostic Mammogram explained

At St. Vincent Health, our Mammography service provides screening mammograms, which are an important part of routine preventive care focused on early detection of breast cancer. Screening mammograms make up most of the annual tests that are prescribed by medical providers. They are performed for patients who do not have any breast symptoms.

It is important to understand that screening mammograms are different from diagnostic mammograms. A diagnostic mammogram is used when a patient has specific breast concerns or symptoms that need further evaluation. These may include a new lump, breast pain, nipple discharge, skin changes, or any noticeable difference in the breast.

Because our service is dedicated to screening, patients who are experiencing any breast changes—such as a lump, persistent pain, nipple discharge, or other unusual symptoms—should seek care at a breast center or diagnostic imaging facility. These centers are equipped to perform diagnostic mammograms and any additional imaging or evaluation that may be needed.

If you are feeling well and have no breast concerns, a screening mammogram at St. Vincent Health is a proactive step in maintaining your health. If you notice any changes, please do not wait—contact a breast center promptly to ensure you receive the appropriate diagnostic care.

Ultrasound

Very high-frequency sound waves produce an image of many of the internal structures of the body. This procedure is painless and produces very precise images of certain parts of the body. We offer abdominal and renal imaging, upper and lower extremities,  internal organs, pelvis, vascular, soft tissue, lymph nodes, arteriovenous fistula surveillance and assessment, vein mapping, and more.

Echocardiograms

A non-invasive ultrasound that uses high-frequency sound waves to create a moving picture of the heart. It's a common, low-risk, and painless test that can provide important information about the structure and function of the heart.

Prenatal Ultrasounds

St. Vincent Health offers OBGYN and Prenatal Ultrasounds: Pelvic non-OB (transabdominal and transvaginal), 1st trimester (for dating, viability, complications, etc.), Anatomical Surveys (20-week anatomy scan), 2nd and 3rd-trimester fetal biometry growth assessment, and more, please inquire.

CT or CAT Scan

A computerized tomography (CT) scan combines a series of x-ray images around the body and viewed at different angles to output cross-sectional images of bones, blood vessels, and soft tissues in the body. The benefit of a CT scan is that it provides more detailed information than a simple x-ray.

A CT scan is used to visualize nearly all parts of the body and is used to diagnose disease or injury, or for informing medical, surgical, or radiation treatment.

CT Low Dose Chest Scan

A low-dose computerized tomography (LDCT) scan of the lungs can detect signs of lung cancer. Lung cancer screening is recommended for older adults who are long-time smokers and who don’t have any signs or symptoms of lung cancer. Early detection increases the probability of curing lung cancer with treatment.

X-Ray

An x-ray is a short, painless exam that produces images of bones and other structures inside the body. Walk-ins for x-rays are welcome with a provider’s order.
